General description of the
Silverton Area
Below are links to the specific walls of the area

Area Name:
Silverton
Updated By: lisalanier63 on 12/3/2002
Getting There:
Silverton is located on Hwy 550, 50 miles north of Durango and 20 miles south of Ouray. To get to South Mineral Creek, Head west on 550 out of town and almost immediately trun left onto CR# 585. Drive as far as you can or dare. To get to Eureka, head north out of Silverton on Hwy 110. It's usually plowed as far as the town of Eureka. Beware, if the road is open and the plows are working, you may come back to your car, only to find it buried. Be sure you have a shovel. Also be aware that avalanches can, and do, close this road at any time. They just don't seem to care if it's plowed!

Current Conditions:
As of Dec. 3rd most climbs in the Silverton area are being climbed. The only problem (not if you ski)is the great early snowfall. Slide danger is going to be a problem this year (when isn't it?). South mineral climbs are a definite ski in now. The road is blocked by snow berm. Eureka climbs are all in now. The gully's are in. Stairway to Heaven is being climbed quite a bit. Whorehouse Hose is rampy this year on the left side, Grade 3!!!. It's being climbed alot. Hoser's Highway is big!and seen ascent this year already. Have Fun!
Other Comments:
Silverton is an old mining town. There is not a lot of traffic in the winter due avalanch danger in the area (warning).
